Draft Grade — Giants

FutureB
The Giants cashed the board's mistake on Singleton: D. The Tommy Mellott selection is the head-turner. The Giants reached 102 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.
However the rest shakes out, Singleton at that price is a win they earned. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Mason Graham
In slot 13 they get a load in the middle. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick21
Rnd1
Tre Harris
In the 21st pick they get a home-run threat at receiver, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick40
Rnd2
Will Johnson
They read the board right and Will Johnson was the payoff at the Round 2 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick44
Rnd2
Jahdae Barron
Jahdae Barron at the 44th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick66
Rnd3
Harold Fannin Jr.
Taking Harold Fannin Jr. in slot 66 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick71
Rnd3
Omarion Hampton
Steal is underselling it; Omarion Hampton at Round 3, Pick 7 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick97
Rnd3
Tyler Booker
They barely believed it either: Tyler Booker still on the board at the 97th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick107
Rnd4
Kurtis Rourke
They went early on Kurtis Rourke in pick 107, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick133
Rnd4
Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins at pick No. 133 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick134
Rnd4
Danny Stutsman
A linebacker of that caliber at the Round 4 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick135
Rnd4
Omarr Norman-Lott
This one needs a full-page explanation: Omarr Norman-Lott in No. 135, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick142
Rnd5
Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren in the 142nd overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Pick154
Rnd5
Harold Perkins Jr.
Harold Perkins Jr. in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick174
Rnd5
Will Howard
They reached a country mile for Will Howard at pick No. 174, and the board is aghast. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick219
Rnd7
Parker Brailsford
The board fumbled Parker Brailsford all the way to the 219th overall pick, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick228
Rnd7
Jared Wilson
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jared Wilson reach pick 228 and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick229
Rnd7
Trey Wedig
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Trey Wedig. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick230
Rnd7
Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton at Round 7, Pick 16 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
Pick231
Rnd7
Deion Burks
A reach for Deion Burks in No. 231; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick242
Rnd7
Tommy Mellott
They talked themselves into Tommy Mellott at the 242nd pick, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick246
Rnd7
Rod Moore
Somehow Rod Moore was still sitting there in the 246th overall pick, and they pounced on premier safety value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick247
Rnd7
Jake Briningstool
They robbed the room for Jake Briningstool here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick248
Rnd7
Oronde Gadsden II
A big swing on Oronde Gadsden II at slot 248, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick250
Rnd7
Jalen Rivers
Jalen Rivers in pick No. 250 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick255
Rnd7
Bryan Felter
Value said wait; Bryan Felter in the Round 7 slot says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick256
Rnd7
J.J. Weaver
A swing that ignored the value entirely, J.J. Weaver well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
