Draft Grade — Giants
Overall
D
ValueB+
NeedB
TradesF
FutureC+
Beck is the plan now, and the Giants grade out a D. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Giants watched Tate Ratledge slide 75 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
The whole projection now runs through Carson Beck; hit there and everything else looks smarter. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Safety was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In the 5th overall pick they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick6
Rnd1
Carson Beck
In the Round 1 slot they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
Pick38
Rnd2
Jabbar Muhammad
Jabbar Muhammad at Round 2, Pick 6 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick70
Rnd3
Drew Allar
Drew Allar slipping to the 70th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick102
Rnd4
Ajani Cornelius
Ajani Cornelius at pick No. 102 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick134
Rnd5
Tate Ratledge
Taking Tate Ratledge in pick 134 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick135
Rnd5
Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba in No. 135 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick136
Rnd5
Quincy Riley
Quincy Riley in the 136th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Pick137
Rnd5
Trevor Etienne
You do not let a running back like Trevor Etienne reach slot 137 and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick138
Rnd5
Antwane Wells Jr.
They barely believed it either: Antwane Wells Jr. still on the board at the Round 5 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick139
Rnd5
J. Michael Sturdivant
Somehow J. Michael Sturdivant was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 11, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick140
Rnd5
Oscar Delp
Value with a capital V on Oscar Delp in the 140th pick, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
Pick166
Rnd6
Billy Bowman Jr.
A tidy little value on Billy Bowman Jr. in No. 166, a step better than break-even. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick167
Rnd6
Gentry Williams
They did well to land Gentry Williams in the Round 6 slot, just ahead of his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick168
Rnd6
Moose Muhammad III
Moose Muhammad III in pick No. 168 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick198
Rnd7
Ricky White
Ricky White at slot 198 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick219
Rnd7
J.J. Weaver
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and J.J. Weaver at pick 219 is the proof. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
