Draft Grade — Giants

FutureC+
A franchise passer in Beck headlines a D weekend for the Giants. Somebody took the Giants to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. Hard to defend, and the D reflects that.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Castro. Whatever Carson Beck becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. If Nesbit pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
James Pearce Jr.
In the 13th pick they get a bendy edge with upside, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick16
Rnd1
Deone Walker
In the 16th overall pick they get a run-stuffing presence up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick21
Rnd1
Carson Beck
In Round 1, Pick 21 they get their quarterback of the future, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Quinn Ewers
Quinn Ewers in No. 38 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick40
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
Steal is underselling it; Malaki Starks at the Round 2 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick45
Rnd2
Walter Nolen
Walter Nolen at slot 45 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick70
Rnd3
Tyler Booker
The board fumbled Tyler Booker all the way to pick No. 70, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick93
Rnd3
Clay Webb
Fair-plus on Clay Webb, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick102
Rnd4
Donovan Edwards
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Donovan Edwards in pick No. 102, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick110
Rnd4
Bryson Nesbit
They reached a country mile for Bryson Nesbit at No. 110, and the board is aghast. It fills a real need, too.
Pick117
Rnd4
Jason Marshall Jr.
You do not let a cornerback like Jason Marshall Jr. reach the 117th overall pick and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick134
Rnd5
Sebastian Castro
A safety of that caliber at slot 134 is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick139
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
Nice patience on Davison Igbinosun, who had no business lasting to the Round 5 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick149
Rnd5
Smael Mondon Jr.
Taking Smael Mondon Jr. in Round 5, Pick 21 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick150
Rnd5
J. Michael Sturdivant
J. Michael Sturdivant in the 150th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick151
Rnd5
Wyatt Milum
Wyatt Milum at pick 151 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick152
Rnd5
Dorian Strong
No drama and no debate, Dorian Strong went about where he belonged in No. 152. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick156
Rnd5
Billy Bowman Jr.
Billy Bowman Jr. at slot 156 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick166
Rnd6
Gentry Williams
Value with a capital V on Gentry Williams in the 166th overall pick, a genuine coup. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick198
Rnd7
Moose Muhammad III
They robbed the room for Moose Muhammad III here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick200
Rnd7
Francisco Mauigoa
Francisco Mauigoa at the Round 7 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick219
Rnd7
Oronde Gadsden II
No edge and no loss on Oronde Gadsden II in the 219th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick220
Rnd7
Davin Vann
They left a pile of value on the table to take Davin Vann this early at Round 7, Pick 28. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
