Draft Grade — Giants
Overall
B-
ValueB+
NeedB
TradesC+
FutureC+
A franchise passer in Beck headlines a B- weekend for the Giants. Call it larceny. Riley Leonard sat on the board until pick No. 219, and the Giants did not need to be asked twice. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Carson Beck gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Carson Beck
In slot 6 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Emery Jones
Nothing to complain about; Emery Jones went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick70
Rnd3
Mykel Williams
They robbed the room for Mykel Williams here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
Pick102
Rnd4
Jalen Milroe
Jalen Milroe in pick 102 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick103
Rnd4
Sebastian Castro
Sebastian Castro at pick No. 103 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick134
Rnd5
Tahj Brooks
You do not let a running back like Tahj Brooks reach slot 134 and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick139
Rnd5
Smael Mondon Jr.
A linebacker of that caliber at No. 139 is the definition of value, full stop. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick140
Rnd5
Xavier Restrepo
Steal is underselling it; Xavier Restrepo at the Round 5 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick141
Rnd5
Tyler Warren
They barely believed it either: Tyler Warren still on the board at Round 5, Pick 13. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick142
Rnd5
Dorian Strong
Dorian Strong at the 142nd overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick146
Rnd5
Jack Nelson
A tidy little value on Jack Nelson in pick 146, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick159
Rnd5
Jaeden Roberts
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jaeden Roberts in the 159th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick198
Rnd7
Billy Bowman Jr.
Somehow Billy Bowman Jr. was still sitting there in slot 198, and they pounced on premier safety value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick219
Rnd7
Riley Leonard
Riley Leonard at pick No. 219 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick223
Rnd7
Bru McCoy
They will replay Bru McCoy at No. 223 for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick224
Rnd7
Tyler Batty
The board fumbled Tyler Batty all the way to Round 7, Pick 32, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
