Draft Grade — Giants
Overall

Beck is the Giants' new face under center. Grade: D-. Somebody in the 139th pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Giants sat still while Dontay Corleone, the No. 51 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Carson Beck gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits.
Gadsden II has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Carson Beck
In the Round 1 slot they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick7
Rnd1
Luther Burden III
A reasonable price with a little left over, Luther Burden III in pick No. 7. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick39
Rnd2
Benjamin Morrison
A cornerback of that caliber at the 39th pick is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
Pick40
Rnd2
Deone Walker
Circle this one: Deone Walker at Round 2, Pick 8 is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick70
Rnd3
Mykel Williams
They will replay Mykel Williams at the 70th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
Pick71
Rnd3
Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts at pick 71 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick72
Rnd3
Drew Allar
They barely believed it either: Drew Allar still on the board at No. 72. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick102
Rnd4
Donovan Jackson
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Donovan Jackson in the Round 4 slot, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick139
Rnd5
Dontay Corleone
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Dontay Corleone reach pick No. 139 and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick166
Rnd6
Jack Nelson
Value with a capital V on Jack Nelson in slot 166, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick198
Rnd7
Jack Kiser
Jack Kiser in pick 198 is fair value, right on his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick219
Rnd7
Noah Thomas
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Noah Thomas at slot 219. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick220
Rnd7
Brady Cook
Brady Cook in pick No. 220 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick221
Rnd7
Xavier Truss
The board fumbled Xavier Truss all the way to Round 7, Pick 29, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick222
Rnd7
Tim Smith
They let Tim Smith come to them and pounced at No. 222. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick223
Rnd7
Oronde Gadsden II
This one needs a full-page explanation: Oronde Gadsden II in the Round 7 slot, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick224
Rnd7
Kaidon Salter
Kaidon Salter at the 224th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
