Draft Grade — Giants
Overall

FutureB-
Quarterback settled, Ward in the fold, and a D for the Giants. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Giants watched Sonny Styles slide 116 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Put together, it is a D.
Mbow has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down.
They have staked the next five years on Cam Ward, which is the only story that really matters here.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Cam Ward
In the 4th pick they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
James Pearce Jr.
James Pearce Jr. in No. 34 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick36
Rnd2
Tre Harris
A tidy bit of business in pick 36, where Tre Harris graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick39
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge is a better player than the 39th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick48
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
A slide stopped in No. 48, with Xavier Watts worth more than the price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick65
Rnd3
Trey Amos
Trey Amos at the 65th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick106
Rnd4
Mikail Kamara
Taking Mikail Kamara in the Round 4 slot is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick118
Rnd4
Smael Mondon Jr.
Circle this one: Smael Mondon Jr. at slot 118 is a fall that decides a draft. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick119
Rnd4
Jay Higgins
You do not let a linebacker like Jay Higgins reach pick No. 119 and blink. They did not. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick131
Rnd4
TreVeyon Henderson
A top-tier running back at a bargain, TreVeyon Henderson in Round 4, Pick 30, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick133
Rnd4
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A big swing on Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick No. 133, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick134
Rnd4
Eli Stowers
A real head-scratcher, Eli Stowers in the Round 4 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick157
Rnd5
Sonny Styles
The board fumbled Sonny Styles all the way to the 157th overall pick, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick195
Rnd6
Cody Simon
Cody Simon at slot 195 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick219
Rnd7
Marcus Mbow
They reached into another round for Marcus Mbow, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick246
Rnd7
Thor Griffith
This one needs a full-page explanation: Thor Griffith in pick 246, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick256
Rnd7
Dorian Strong
Dorian Strong at Round 7, Pick 42 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
