Draft Grade — Giants
Overall
B-
ValueA-
NeedB
TradesC+
FutureC+
The Giants left with their quarterback, and a B- to match. Thirty-one other rooms let Dillon Gabriel slide, and the Giants were the ones holding the card at pick No. 170. Highway robbery. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They have staked the next five years on Carson Beck, which is the only story that really matters here. The Delp reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Carson Beck
In pick No. 7 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
Pick38
Rnd2
James Pearce Jr.
A edge rusher of that caliber at No. 38 is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick39
Rnd2
Will Johnson
Will Johnson at the Round 2 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick71
Rnd3
Travis Hunter
Circle this one: Travis Hunter at the 71st pick is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick102
Rnd4
J. Michael Sturdivant
J. Michael Sturdivant at No. 102 is a conviction pick that outran the value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick103
Rnd4
Oscar Delp
This one needs a full-page explanation: Oscar Delp in pick No. 103, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
Pick134
Rnd5
Nicholas Singleton
They robbed the room for Nicholas Singleton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick135
Rnd5
Anthony Belton
Taking Anthony Belton in slot 135 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick136
Rnd5
Xavier Restrepo
Xavier Restrepo in pick 136 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick137
Rnd5
Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori at the 137th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick138
Rnd5
Riley Mahlman
Somehow Riley Mahlman was still sitting there in No. 138, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick139
Rnd5
Tonka Hemingway
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tonka Hemingway at pick 139 is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick166
Rnd6
Billy Bowman Jr.
Nice patience on Billy Bowman Jr., who had no business lasting to the 166th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick170
Rnd6
Dillon Gabriel
They will replay Dillon Gabriel at the 170th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick171
Rnd6
Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards at pick No. 171 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick178
Rnd6
Francisco Mauigoa
They let Francisco Mauigoa come to them and pounced at Round 6, Pick 18. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick181
Rnd6
Will Sheppard
Will Sheppard slid further than he should have, and slot 181 is lovely value for the wide receiver. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
