A franchise passer in Manning headlines a B+ weekend for the Jets. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Jets spent their marquee pick on Arch Manning, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
If Shelby pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Getting Stone where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The phones were where this weekend was really won.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Arch Manning
In the 3rd pick they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick16
Rnd1
Matayo Uiagalelei
In No. 16 they get a premier pass rusher. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick33
Rnd2
Tae Johnson
Tae Johnson in pick No. 33 lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick34
Rnd2
Will Echoles
Somehow Will Echoles was still sitting there in the 34th overall pick, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick44
Rnd2
Kelley Jones
No edge and no loss on Kelley Jones in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick65
Rnd3
David Stone
David Stone in Round 3, Pick 1 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick103
Rnd4
Nyck Harbor
They took Nyck Harbor at par in slot 103, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick104
Rnd4
Iapani Laloulu
A slide stopped in pick 104, with Iapani Laloulu worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick175
Rnd5
Jacob Ponton
Jacob Ponton in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick178
Rnd5
Amaris Williams
A real head-scratcher, Amaris Williams in slot 178 is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick192
Rnd6
Jayden Virgin-Morgan
The board fumbled Jayden Virgin-Morgan all the way to Round 6, Pick 13, and they scooped it up. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick206
Rnd6
Jake Guarnera
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jake Guarnera in the 206th pick. The roster fit checks out.
Pick210
Rnd6
Gunner Stockton
They liked Gunner Stockton enough to skip the value, taking him in the 210th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick217
Rnd7
Elinneus Davis
Elinneus Davis in pick No. 217 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick218
Rnd7
Braylan Shelby
Braylan Shelby in pick 218 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick242
Rnd7
DeSean Bishop
DeSean Bishop at No. 242 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
