Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Texans let Williams fall into their laps, and walked away with a B-.

Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Texans never addressed edge rusher, and it is the kind of gap that lingers. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

The Davis pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. That Williams pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Olaivavega Ioane
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Christen Miller
They paid sticker price for Christen Miller in the 38th overall pick, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick59 Rnd2 Jadarian Price
Jadarian Price at Round 2, Pick 27 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick69 Rnd3 Antonio Williams
Antonio Williams in pick No. 69 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick106 Rnd4 J.C. Davis
J.C. Davis at the 106th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick128 Rnd4 Parker Brailsford
Parker Brailsford slipping to pick 128 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The roster fit checks out.
Pick165 Rnd5 Jaydn Ott
Jaydn Ott in the 165th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick243 Rnd7 Tony Grimes
They read the board right and Tony Grimes was the payoff at pick 243. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick244 Rnd7 Jaylon Braxton
They did well to land Jaylon Braxton in the Round 7 slot, just ahead of his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
