Draft Grade — Texans
Overall C+
ValueD+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Texans land in the muddy middle: C+.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Texans reached some 77 spots for Hollin Pierce, and value like that does not grow back. For now it grades a C+, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.

However the rest shakes out, Thornton Jr. at that price is a win they earned. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Tyleik Williams
In the 25th overall pick they get a disruptive interior force, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick58 Rnd2 Hollin Pierce
A real head-scratcher, Hollin Pierce in the 58th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick79 Rnd3 Jared Wilson
They talked themselves into Jared Wilson at the Round 3 slot, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick89 Rnd3 Tai Felton
Tai Felton at pick 89 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick166 Rnd5 DJ Giddens
No drama and no debate, DJ Giddens went about where he belonged in No. 166. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick236 Rnd7 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Circle this one: Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick No. 236 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick241 Rnd7 Marcus Yarns
Marcus Yarns in the Round 7 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
