Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Texans.

They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Collin Oliver, 83 picks early at the 216th overall pick. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Hancock pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Tyler Booker
In No. 25 they get protection for the quarterback, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
Pick58 Rnd2 Isaiah Bond
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Isaiah Bond well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick79 Rnd3 Cameron Williams
Cameron Williams slipping to pick No. 79 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick89 Rnd3 Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander at slot 89 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick179 Rnd6 DJ Giddens
Nothing to complain about; DJ Giddens went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick216 Rnd6 Collin Oliver
Collin Oliver at the 216th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick236 Rnd7 Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock at slot 236 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick241 Rnd7 LaJohntay Wester
LaJohntay Wester in pick 241 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick255 Rnd7 Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner at the 255th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
