Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Texans.

The Phillip Webb selection is the head-turner. The Texans reached 107 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

The Kiser value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant at No. 25 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick58 Rnd2 Isaiah Bond
They left a pile of value on the table to take Isaiah Bond this early at the 58th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick79 Rnd3 Cameron Williams
Cameron Williams slipping to the Round 3 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick89 Rnd3 Charles Grant
They paid sticker price for Charles Grant in Round 3, Pick 25, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick179 Rnd6 Damien Martinez
Damien Martinez at pick 179 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick216 Rnd6 Jaylen Reed
Circle this one: Jaylen Reed at the 216th pick is a fall that decides a draft. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick236 Rnd7 Jack Kiser
Jack Kiser at pick 236 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick241 Rnd7 Phillip Webb
A wild overpay on Phillip Webb in No. 241, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick255 Rnd7 LaJohntay Wester
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on LaJohntay Wester. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
