Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall F
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureD
The 49ers let McNeil-Warren fall and pounced. Final grade: F.

Somebody took the 49ers to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.

The Moore pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

On value alone, McNeil-Warren makes the weekend a net positive. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.

There is no spinning it; the board won this weekend going away.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Chris Brazzell II
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a matchup problem out wide. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Olaivavega Ioane
They paid sticker price for Olaivavega Ioane in pick 38, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick58 Rnd2 Ja'Kobi Lane
A reach on Ja'Kobi Lane in slot 58; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick59 Rnd2 Max Klare
By-the-book stuff, Max Klare at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick76 Rnd3 Derrick Moore
Derrick Moore at the 76th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick85 Rnd3 Emmett Johnson
Emmett Johnson in the 85th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick92 Rnd3 Taurean York
Taurean York is a better player than the Round 3 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick94 Rnd3 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at Round 3, Pick 30 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick99 Rnd3 D'Angelo Ponds
D'Angelo Ponds in No. 99 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick121 Rnd4 Blake Miller
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Blake Miller. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick125 Rnd4 Niki Prongos
They took Niki Prongos at par in pick No. 125, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick130 Rnd4 Michael Trigg
Michael Trigg at pick 130 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick133 Rnd4 Logan Jones
Logan Jones in slot 133 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick136 Rnd4 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
Ar'maj Reed-Adams at the 136th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick139 Rnd4 DeMonte Capehart
No drama and no debate, DeMonte Capehart went about where he belonged in pick No. 139. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick178 Rnd5 Rayshaun Benny
A straight-up fair deal on Rayshaun Benny at No. 178, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick210 Rnd6 Barion Brown
No edge and no loss on Barion Brown in the Round 6 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick215 Rnd6 Isaac Smith
The board had cheaper options than Isaac Smith at pick 215, and it noticed. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
