Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
D
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesF
FutureA+
The Bears lost the trade table, and the D tells the story. The trade table was where it all came apart. The Bears shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.
The Raym reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The Cowing value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
Pick24
Rnd1
Keon Coleman
In No. 24 they get a true top target, though they paid up to get him. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick69
Rnd3
Michael Hall Jr.
A conviction pick on Michael Hall Jr. at slot 69 that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick105
Rnd4
James Williams
No drama and no debate, James Williams went about where he belonged in the 105th overall pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick132
Rnd4
Nehemiah Pritchett
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Nehemiah Pritchett at the 132nd pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick142
Rnd5
Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey at pick No. 142 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick160
Rnd5
Andrew Raym
They reached into another round for Andrew Raym, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick173
Rnd5
Javon Foster
They did well to land Javon Foster in the Round 5 slot, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick183
Rnd6
Joshua Gray
A wild overpay on Joshua Gray in slot 183, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
Pick193
Rnd6
Jacob Cowing
Jacob Cowing in the 193rd pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick233
Rnd7
Hayden Hatten
Hayden Hatten in the 233rd overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
