Draft Grade — Steelers

FutureB-
The Steelers lost the trade table, and the D- tells the story. It is the swing that defines the weekend: Jaxson Dart in pick No. 70, a good 65 spots before the room expected him. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The Steelers indulged a want in Cornelius while a need in interior defensive lineman and edge rusher stayed open. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
On value alone, Hancock makes the weekend a net positive.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Luther Burden III
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a go-to option on the outside. A real need, handled.
Pick42
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Taking Jalon Walker in slot 42 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick52
Rnd2
Dylan Fairchild
A straight-up fair deal on Dylan Fairchild at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick53
Rnd2
Trey Amos
Trey Amos in No. 53 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick70
Rnd3
Jaxson Dart
Jaxson Dart in pick 70 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick83
Rnd3
Cam Skattebo
They left a pile of value on the table to take Cam Skattebo this early at the 83rd overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick89
Rnd3
Ajani Cornelius
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman and edge rusher to take Ajani Cornelius, an offensive lineman that was not the priority.
Pick121
Rnd4
Kyren Lacy
Fair-plus on Kyren Lacy, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick161
Rnd5
Ollie Gordon II
Good price on Ollie Gordon II in Round 5, Pick 24, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick223
Rnd7
Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock in slot 223 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick245
Rnd7
Jake Briningstool
They robbed the room for Jake Briningstool here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
