The Bears did not so much draft Drake Nugent as overpay for him, 87 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Whatever Caleb Williams becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer.

They banked enough surplus on Hopper to cover a lot of smaller sins. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.

In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
