KCSwoff DRAFTING FOR THEChiefs
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Chiefs won the night they stopped Bowman Jr. from sliding. Grade: B. You build a draft on nights like this. Billy Bowman Jr. had no business being available in Round 4, Pick 31, and the Chiefs did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The offensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. It is not that Bowman Jr. is a bad player; it is that the Chiefs had louder needs to answer first.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the offensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Colston Loveland
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a red-zone target to build around. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick63
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts in the Round 2 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick66
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
A quiet steal in slot 66: TreVeyon Henderson for less than the market said. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick95
Rnd3
Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander at pick No. 95 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick133
Rnd4
Billy Bowman Jr.
A want over a need in pick 133: Billy Bowman Jr. adds a safety while offensive lineman, quarterback and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick226
Rnd7
Cam Jackson
They paid sticker price for Cam Jackson in the 226th overall pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick251
Rnd7
Cody Lindenberg
No edge and no loss on Cody Lindenberg in No. 251; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick257
Rnd7
Bru McCoy
No drama and no debate, Bru McCoy went about where he belonged in the 257th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
