Draft Grade — Lions
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedA- TradesA+ FutureB-
The Lions won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B+.

The Lions ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.

The cost of the Jefferson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They will regret leaving linebacker for another day if the season turns on it. The Sainristil steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

Adding Khalil Mack by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but linebacker.

Pick Analysis
Pick37 Rnd2 Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
They paid sticker price for Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in pick 37, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick61 Rnd2 Chris Braswell
Chris Braswell at No. 61 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick73 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at pick No. 73 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick92 Rnd3 Mike Sainristil
Mike Sainristil is a better player than Round 3, Pick 29 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick163 Rnd5 Jordan Jefferson
They talked themselves into Jordan Jefferson at slot 163, and the board did not agree. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick207 Rnd6 De'Corian Clark
A straight-up fair deal on De'Corian Clark at the 207th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick247 Rnd7 Trey Taylor
Trey Taylor at the 247th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
