Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Chargers spent the 55th overall pick on R.J. Oben, a name the board had a full 34 spots lower.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. For all the activity, offensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Smith pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.

In the end, a class that has to defy its grades just to matter.
