Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
C
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesD-
FutureB-
The phones sank the Steelers this weekend: C. The Steelers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending slot 195 on Austin Reed a full 79 spots early.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The Limmer pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, linebacker and other spots still on the board. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick Analysis
Pick34
Rnd2
Ladd McConkey
A straight-up fair deal on Ladd McConkey at Round 2, Pick 2, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick51
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
They paid sticker price for Kingsley Suamataia in slot 51, and that is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick68
Rnd3
Javon Bullard
Javon Bullard at the 68th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick84
Rnd3
DJ James
Fair-plus on DJ James, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick103
Rnd4
Mekhi Wingo
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mekhi Wingo. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick119
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
No edge and no loss on Johnny Wilson in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick120
Rnd4
Beaux Limmer
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending No. 120 on Beaux Limmer with edge rusher, linebacker and other spots unsolved.
Pick178
Rnd6
Delmar Glaze
Delmar Glaze at the Round 6 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick195
Rnd6
Austin Reed
Value said wait; Austin Reed in slot 195 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
