Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesB FutureB+
The steal of the weekend belongs to the 49ers and Walker: B.

Call it larceny. Jalon Walker sat on the board until pick 43, and the 49ers did not need to be asked twice. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

Reaching for Roberts left real value on the table behind him. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Walter Nolen
No drama and no debate, Walter Nolen went about where he belonged in Round 1, Pick 14. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick43 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
Taking Jalon Walker in pick No. 43 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
Pick75 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
The board had Donovan Jackson higher than the 75th pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick100 Rnd3 Savion Williams
Savion Williams in pick 100 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick113 Rnd4 Cam Skattebo
A tidy little value on Cam Skattebo in No. 113, a step better than break-even. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick138 Rnd4 Malachi Moore
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Malachi Moore. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick147 Rnd5 Cody Simon
Cody Simon in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick160 Rnd5 Elijah Roberts
They left a pile of value on the table to take Elijah Roberts this early at slot 160. The roster fit checks out.
Pick227 Rnd7 Carson Vinson
Carson Vinson in slot 227 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick249 Rnd7 Brandon Adams
A premium they did not need to pay, Brandon Adams a notch or two before his time. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick252 Rnd7 Jackson Hawes
They took Jackson Hawes at par in pick 252, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
