Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB- TradesA FutureB
More right than wrong for the Steelers, and a B to prove it.

You can usually follow a front office's logic. This one is harder. The Steelers spent the 84th pick on Patrick Paul while quarterback and tight end sat unaddressed. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Simpson value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

If Hunt pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
In pick 25 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. More want than need.
Pick51 Rnd2 Malachi Corley
By-the-book stuff, Malachi Corley at slot 51 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick84 Rnd3 Patrick Paul
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending Round 3, Pick 20 on Patrick Paul with quarterback and tight end unsolved.
Pick98 Rnd3 Calen Bullock
Nice patience on Calen Bullock, who had no business lasting to the Round 3 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick108 Rnd4 Caelen Carson
Caelen Carson slid further than he should have, and pick 108 is lovely value for the cornerback. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick119 Rnd4 Jalyx Hunt
They paid up for Jalyx Hunt at the 119th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick126 Rnd4 Leonard Taylor III
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Leonard Taylor III. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick157 Rnd5 Trevin Wallace
Trevin Wallace at pick No. 157 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick169 Rnd5 Jaylin Simpson
Value with a capital V on Jaylin Simpson in No. 169, a genuine coup. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick178 Rnd6 Dylan Laube
A reasonable price with a little left over, Dylan Laube in pick 178. It fills a real need, too.
Pick195 Rnd6 Jha'Quan Jackson
They did well to land Jha'Quan Jackson in slot 195, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick245 Rnd7 Michael Barrett
Michael Barrett at pick No. 245 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
