Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
D-
ValueC+

FutureB-
The Bears bled value on every deal, hence the D-. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Brashard Smith at pick 89 is 44 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. Too much went sideways, and the D- is the honest tally.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They will answer for taking safety early while quarterback went begging.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In Round 1, Pick 14 they get a matchup weapon at tight end. More want than need.
Pick20
Rnd1
Derrick Harmon
In pick No. 20 they get a load in the middle, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick45
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
A tidy bit of business in the Round 2 slot, where Jihaad Campbell graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick50
Rnd2
Quinshon Judkins
A reach on Quinshon Judkins in the 50th overall pick; the board had better options right there. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick58
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
They paid up for Tate Ratledge at the 58th pick when waiting would have done the job. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick72
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba at slot 72 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick80
Rnd3
Ashton Gillotte
They paid a round early for Ashton Gillotte in pick No. 80, more than the board wanted. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick81
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick82
Rnd3
Cam Skattebo
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Cam Skattebo well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick85
Rnd3
Kevin Winston Jr.
A want over a need in slot 85: Kevin Winston Jr. adds a safety while quarterback keeps waiting.
Pick89
Rnd3
Brashard Smith
This one needs a full-page explanation: Brashard Smith in the 89th overall pick, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick92
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
The board had cheaper options than Jared Wilson at Round 3, Pick 28, and it noticed. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick119
Rnd4
Jaylin Lane
By-the-book stuff, Jaylin Lane at the 119th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick122
Rnd4
Dorian Strong
No edge and no loss on Dorian Strong in No. 122; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick137
Rnd4
Logan Brown
Logan Brown at Round 4, Pick 35 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick148
Rnd5
Ben Sauls
They jumped the gun on Ben Sauls, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick172
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the Round 5 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick175
Rnd5
Jalen McLeod
Jalen McLeod at pick No. 175 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick193
Rnd6
Isaac TeSlaa
They reached into another round for Isaac TeSlaa, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick242
Rnd7
Brant Kuithe
Brant Kuithe in the 242nd overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
