Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B+
ValueB+ NeedB TradesB FutureA
A passer of the future in Williams, and a B+, for the Bears.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Bears were there to profit. Tommy Eichenberg, the No. 145 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 257. The bottom line is a respectable B+.

They have staked the next five years on Caleb Williams, which is the only story that really matters here. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Aaron Jones pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.

It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In pick 1 they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick23 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In the 23rd pick they get a true top target, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick75 Rnd3 Jackson Powers-Johnson
They barely believed it either: Jackson Powers-Johnson still on the board at No. 75. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick108 Rnd4 Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at the Round 4 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick122 Rnd4 Sataoa Laumea
A slide stopped in pick No. 122, with Sataoa Laumea worth more than the price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick185 Rnd6 Tykee Smith
Somehow Tykee Smith was still sitting there in the 185th pick, and they pounced on premier safety value. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick257 Rnd7 Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg in slot 257 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
