The Lions did not so much draft Carson Steele as overpay for him, 49 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped linebacker, which is a strange place to end up. Turner at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
