Draft Grade — Lions
Overall B-

Good, not great, for the Lions: B-.

The Lions' one glaring miss is linebacker, a need they left exactly as they found it.

The Baker steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Reaching for Jones left real value on the table behind him. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

The back end got a real overhaul.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Quinyon Mitchell
Quinyon Mitchell in the Round 1 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick62 Rnd2 Javon Bullard
No edge and no loss on Javon Bullard in Round 2, Pick 30; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick73 Rnd3 Christian Haynes
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Haynes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick93 Rnd3 Gabriel Murphy
Gabriel Murphy in No. 93 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick167 Rnd5 LaDarius Henderson
LaDarius Henderson at pick 167 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick208 Rnd6 Javon Baker
The board had Javon Baker higher than the 208th pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick251 Rnd7 Matthew Jones
Matthew Jones in the 251st overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
