Draft Grade — Lions
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesA FutureB
The Lions let Clark fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Lions watched De'Corian Clark slide 34 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.

It is not that Jackson is a bad player; it is that the Lions had louder needs to answer first. They will need Powers-Johnson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. That safety hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the safety spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 T'Vondre Sweat
In slot 31 they get a disruptive interior force at fair value. More want than need.
Pick59 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson at pick 59 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick84 Rnd3 D.J. James
D.J. James in the 84th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick91 Rnd3 McKinnley Jackson
A want over a need in the 91st overall pick: McKinnley Jackson adds an interior defensive lineman while safety, quarterback and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick98 Rnd3 Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg at pick No. 98 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick127 Rnd4 Theo Wease
No drama and no debate, Theo Wease went about where he belonged in the Round 4 slot. It fills a real need, too.
Pick164 Rnd5 Zy Alexander
They paid sticker price for Zy Alexander in No. 164, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick205 Rnd6 Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson at Round 6, Pick 30 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick209 Rnd6 Dallin Holker
Nice patience on Dallin Holker, who had no business lasting to Round 6, Pick 34. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick215 Rnd6 Miles Frazier
Good price on Miles Frazier in the Round 6 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick248 Rnd7 De'Corian Clark
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, De'Corian Clark in pick 248, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
