Draft Grade — 49ers

FutureB+
The 49ers let Moss fall and pounced. Final grade: B+. You build a draft on nights like this. Le'Veon Moss had no business being available in the 230th pick, and the 49ers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
Every board in the league had Badger lower, and that gap is the story. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In pick No. 24 they get a load in the middle. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick36
Rnd2
Harold Fannin Jr.
They paid sticker price for Harold Fannin Jr. in slot 36, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick43
Rnd2
Aireontae Ersery
The board had cheaper options than Aireontae Ersery at the 43rd overall pick, and it noticed. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick75
Rnd3
Dylan Fairchild
Dylan Fairchild at the Round 3 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick85
Rnd3
Kaimon Rucker
Kaimon Rucker at No. 85 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick86
Rnd3
Darien Porter
A reasonable price with a little left over, Darien Porter in Round 3, Pick 22. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick88
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba at the 88th pick is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick137
Rnd4
Danny Stutsman
You do not let a linebacker like Danny Stutsman reach pick 137 and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
Pick164
Rnd5
Jonah Monheim
Value said wait; Jonah Monheim in pick No. 164 says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick186
Rnd6
Elijhah Badger
Elijhah Badger in pick 186 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick221
Rnd7
Brant Kuithe
Brant Kuithe at the 221st overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick230
Rnd7
Le'Veon Moss
Somehow Le'Veon Moss was still sitting there in No. 230, and they pounced on premier running back value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick249
Rnd7
Jamaree Caldwell
Jamaree Caldwell in the Round 7 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick254
Rnd7
Akheem Mesidor
A wild overpay on Akheem Mesidor in slot 254, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
