Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
D+
ValueB
NeedB
TradesF
FutureA+
Daniels is the Bears' new face under center. Grade: D+. The phones were a trap the Bears kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Put together, it is a D+.
Jayden Daniels gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. The McCaffrey reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
However the rest shakes out, Knight at that price is a win they earned.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick9
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In No. 9 they get a matchup problem out wide. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Dallas Turner
Dallas Turner at Round 2, Pick 2 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick40
Rnd2
Jordan Morgan
A tidy little value on Jordan Morgan in slot 40, a step better than break-even. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick47
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
A premium they did not need to pay, Zach Frazier a notch or two before his time. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick51
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat in pick No. 51 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick75
Rnd3
Kamren Kinchens
By-the-book stuff, Kamren Kinchens at the 75th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick103
Rnd4
Caelen Carson
A slide stopped in pick 103, with Caelen Carson worth more than the price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick104
Rnd4
Blake Corum
Blake Corum in the 104th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick111
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
They liked Cedric Gray enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 4, Pick 11. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick120
Rnd4
Tyler Davis
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Davis at pick No. 120, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick123
Rnd4
Renardo Green
A quiet steal in No. 123: Renardo Green for less than the market said. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick143
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
A big swing on Luke McCaffrey at the 143rd pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick238
Rnd7
Tyrice Knight
Tyrice Knight in slot 238 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
