Draft Grade — Bears

Grand theft in Round 2, Pick 20: the Bears steal Davis and grade out a B.

You build a draft on nights like this. Tacario Davis had no business being available in No. 52, and the Bears did the only sane thing and turned in the card. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

Reaching for Griffith left real value on the table behind him. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Kelvin Banks Jr.
In pick 20 they get an anchor for the offensive line, and a steal at that.
Pick33 Rnd2 Mykel Williams
Mykel Williams in the 33rd overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick52 Rnd2 Tacario Davis
Circle this one: Tacario Davis at the 52nd pick is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick84 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
Value with a capital V on Donovan Jackson in No. 84, a genuine coup. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick110 Rnd4 Wyatt Milum
A tidy little value on Wyatt Milum in Round 4, Pick 14, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick116 Rnd4 J. Michael Sturdivant
A reasonable price with a little left over, J. Michael Sturdivant in slot 116. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick148 Rnd5 Thor Griffith
They talked themselves into Thor Griffith at the Round 5 slot, and the board did not agree. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick180 Rnd6 Akheem Mesidor
Akheem Mesidor at pick No. 180 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick182 Rnd6 Noah Thomas
They liked Noah Thomas enough to skip the value, taking him in the 182nd pick. The roster fit checks out.
