Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

FutureB-
Williams is the Bears' new face under center. Grade: B. Nobody else had Tanor Bortolini anywhere near Round 4, Pick 18. The Bears did, by 70 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
Whatever Caleb Williams becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Getting Alt where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In No. 1 they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick22
Rnd1
Joe Alt
In slot 22 they get a long-term starter on the line, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick24
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In the Round 1 slot they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick75
Rnd3
Jalen McMillan
They reached a country mile for Jalen McMillan at the 75th pick, and the board is aghast. It fills a real need, too.
Pick89
Rnd3
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson in pick 89 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick102
Rnd4
Mason McCormick
Mason McCormick at pick No. 102 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick118
Rnd4
Tanor Bortolini
Tanor Bortolini in pick 118 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick165
Rnd5
Eric Watts
Eric Watts at No. 165 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
