Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
C-

FutureB-
The 49ers let James fall and pounced. Final grade: C-. The 49ers spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jordan James, the No. 53 name on the board, in pick No. 254. For now it grades a C-, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
So much rides on Travis Hunter that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Travis Hunter
In pick 11 they get a ballhawk on the outside, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Pick43
Rnd2
Wyatt Milum
Wyatt Milum at Round 2, Pick 11 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick68
Rnd3
Kenneth Grant
Steal is underselling it; Kenneth Grant at No. 68 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick75
Rnd3
Tyler Warren
Circle this one: Tyler Warren at the Round 3 slot is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick100
Rnd3
Ashton Gillotte
Ashton Gillotte at the 100th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick112
Rnd4
Armand Membou
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Armand Membou in pick No. 112, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick137
Rnd4
Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins in slot 137 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick186
Rnd6
Tre Harris
Tre Harris in the 186th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick226
Rnd7
Jake Majors
Jake Majors at pick No. 226 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick230
Rnd7
Billy Bowman Jr.
They barely believed it either: Billy Bowman Jr. still on the board at the 230th overall pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick249
Rnd7
Cody Simon
They will replay Cody Simon at the Round 7 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick254
Rnd7
Jordan James
A running back of that caliber at pick 254 is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
