Draft Grade — Saints

A solid, sensible weekend for the Saints: B-. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Saints did exactly that with Malik Muhammad in pick 73.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The Thieneman pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In the Round 1 slot they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at fair value. More want than need.
Pick42
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
A slide stopped in the 42nd pick, with Dillon Thieneman worth more than the price. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick73
Rnd3
Malik Muhammad
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Malik Muhammad well ahead of where he belonged. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick132
Rnd4
CJ Daniels
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on CJ Daniels. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick136
Rnd4
Jalen Farmer
They reached a country mile for Jalen Farmer at slot 136, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
