Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Steelers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

The Steelers spent real capital to be 46 picks early on Evan Williams, and the board is going to hold them to it. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. With edge rusher, running back and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on offensive lineman is the choice that costs them.

On the needs board they went 5 of 9, with quarterback the one that mattered most. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
In slot 20 they get an anchor for the offensive line, even if it was a touch early. More want than need.
Pick51 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
Good price on T'Vondre Sweat in the 51st pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick84 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Khyree Jackson in the 84th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick120 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
By-the-book stuff, Cedric Gray at pick 120 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick121 Rnd4 Christian Jones
A want over a need in pick No. 121: Christian Jones adds an offensive lineman while edge rusher, running back and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick197 Rnd6 Evan Williams
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Evan Williams. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick238 Rnd7 Taulia Tagovailoa
Taulia Tagovailoa in the 238th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
