Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB+ FutureB
The Bears found their guy under center in Williams: B.

After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Bears committed. Caleb Williams is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

They banked enough surplus on Johnson to cover a lot of smaller sins. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Smith has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
A straight-up fair deal on Caleb Williams at slot 1, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Pick17 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick44 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat in pick No. 44 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick75 Rnd3 Bralen Trice
Bralen Trice slid further than he should have, and Round 3, Pick 11 is lovely value for the edge rusher. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick96 Rnd3 Maason Smith
Maason Smith in the 96th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick116 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
A conviction pick on Johnny Wilson at No. 116 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick122 Rnd4 Elijah Jones
Nothing to complain about; Elijah Jones went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick229 Rnd7 Cornelius Johnson
Cornelius Johnson at pick 229 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
