Best value of the weekend goes to the Lions for Rosemy-Jacksaint: B-. Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Lions never addressed edge rusher, and it is the kind of gap that lingers. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
That Rosemy-Jacksaint pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They will need Johnson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
The Lions paired the rookies with proven help, Broderick Washington leading the way. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Tyler Nubin
Tyler Nubin at the Round 1 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick61
Rnd2
T.J. Tampa
A tidy little value on T.J. Tampa in slot 61, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick73
Rnd3
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the 73rd pick is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick90
Rnd3
Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson at the 90th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick131
Rnd4
Nehemiah Pritchett
No edge and no loss on Nehemiah Pritchett in Round 4, Pick 31; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick164
Rnd5
Decamerion Richardson
They liked Decamerion Richardson enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 164. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick205
Rnd6
Ryan Flournoy
Ryan Flournoy at Round 6, Pick 30 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It fills a real need, too.
Pick249
Rnd7
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint in pick 249 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The roster fit checks out.
Pick252
Rnd7
Jacob Monk
A slide stopped in slot 252, with Jacob Monk worth more than the price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
