Grand theft in pick 206: the Lions steal Muhammad III and grade out a B+. The board owed the Lions one, and it paid up: Moose Muhammad III, the No. 153 name on the board, sitting there at the 206th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. For all the activity, linebacker went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Mike Evans deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
On the needs board they went 5 of 9, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
Good work on the whole, with linebacker the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Bralen Trice
In pick 28 they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick73
Rnd3
Caelen Carson
A clean, defensible pick in Round 3, Pick 9 with a little surplus value in Caelen Carson. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick91
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
No drama and no debate, Zak Zinter went about where he belonged in slot 91. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick165
Rnd5
Malik Mustapha
A quiet steal in the Round 5 slot: Malik Mustapha for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick206
Rnd6
Moose Muhammad III
Moose Muhammad III in the 206th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick249
Rnd7
Donovan Jennings
Fair-plus on Donovan Jennings, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
