Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall
B
ValueA-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Raiders let Neal Jr. fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Raiders were there to profit. Marcus Neal Jr., the No. 119 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 152. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Cam Coleman
In the 15th overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick48
Rnd2
A'Mauri Washington
A'Mauri Washington in Round 2, Pick 16 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick79
Rnd3
Bear Alexander
Bear Alexander at pick No. 79 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
Pick118
Rnd4
Iapani Laloulu
The board had Iapani Laloulu higher than the Round 4 slot, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick152
Rnd5
Marcus Neal Jr.
A safety of that caliber at No. 152 is the definition of value, full stop. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick196
Rnd6
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Jermaine Mathews Jr. at pick 196 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
