Arcadiuz DRAFTING FOR THEPatriots
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall
B
ValueA-

FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Patriots for Neal Jr.: B. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Patriots were there to profit. Marcus Neal Jr., the No. 119 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 250. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Yhonzae Pierre
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a double-digit-sack hope, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick55
Rnd2
Ryan Wingo
No drama and no debate, Ryan Wingo went about where he belonged in pick No. 55. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick86
Rnd3
Bear Alexander
Somehow Bear Alexander was still sitting there in pick 86, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick125
Rnd4
Terry Moore
Terry Moore at No. 125 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick165
Rnd5
Shadre Hurst
Steal is underselling it; Shadre Hurst at the 165th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick185
Rnd6
Raylen Wilson
They robbed the room for Raylen Wilson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick208
Rnd6
Nicholas Rodriguez
They barely believed it either: Nicholas Rodriguez still on the board at slot 208. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick250
Rnd7
Marcus Neal Jr.
Circle this one: Marcus Neal Jr. at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick256
Rnd7
Maraad Watson
A straight-up fair deal on Maraad Watson at pick No. 256, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
