Draft Grade — Bills
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Bills let Fortune fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

When a board-topper like O'Donnell Fortune slides to slot 169, you do not overthink it, and the Bills did not. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The cost of the Hairston reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The roster is better shaped than it was, with linebacker chief among the fixes.

The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In No. 30 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick56 Rnd2 Tyleik Williams
Tyleik Williams slid further than he should have, and the 56th overall pick is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick62 Rnd2 Maxwell Hairston
They paid a round early for Maxwell Hairston in the 62nd pick, more than the board wanted. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick109 Rnd4 Lathan Ransom
Lathan Ransom in slot 109 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick132 Rnd4 Cody Simon
Nothing to complain about; Cody Simon went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick169 Rnd5 O'Donnell Fortune
O'Donnell Fortune in pick 169 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick170 Rnd5 Chase Lundt
Chase Lundt in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick173 Rnd5 RJ Harvey
RJ Harvey at Round 5, Pick 35 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick177 Rnd6 Kyle Williams
Kyle Williams at the 177th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick206 Rnd6 Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
A tidy little value on Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson in the 206th pick, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
