Draft Grade — Giants

Ward is the plan now, and the Giants grade out a B-.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Giants spent their marquee pick on Cam Ward, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

The cost of the Tuten reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Grant. Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Cam Ward
In pick No. 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant at the Round 2 slot is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick65 Rnd3 Charles Grant
A big swing on Charles Grant at pick 65, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick99 Rnd3 Tai Felton
They took Tai Felton at par in Round 3, Pick 35, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick105 Rnd4 Bhayshul Tuten
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Bhayshul Tuten. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick154 Rnd5 Ajani Cornelius
Ajani Cornelius at the 154th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick219 Rnd7 Ja'Corey Brooks
A conviction pick on Ja'Corey Brooks at the 219th overall pick that the board grades a round light. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick246 Rnd7 Shilo Sanders
Value said wait; Shilo Sanders in No. 246 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
