FutureF
Daniels is the plan now, and the Patriots grade out a B-. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Getting Jackson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In No. 8 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick24
Rnd1
Amarius Mims
In the 24th pick they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Jordan Morgan
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jordan Morgan in the 34th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick87
Rnd3
Jalen McMillan
Good price on Jalen McMillan in pick 87, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick103
Rnd4
McKinnley Jackson
The board had McKinnley Jackson higher than the Round 4 slot, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick124
Rnd4
Cole Bishop
Cole Bishop in Round 4, Pick 24 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick139
Rnd5
Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at slot 139 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick182
Rnd6
Jaylan Ford
They read the board right and Jaylan Ford was the payoff at pick No. 182. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick224
Rnd7
Matthew Jones
Matthew Jones at the 224th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
