Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Williams is the Commanders' new face under center. Grade: B-.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Caleb Williams, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.

The cost of the Laube reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. The Wiley pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In the 2nd overall pick they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
Pick36 Rnd2 Jordan Morgan
No edge and no loss on Jordan Morgan in Round 2, Pick 4; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick40 Rnd2 Darius Robinson
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Darius Robinson. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick67 Rnd3 Payton Wilson
Value with a capital V on Payton Wilson in No. 67, a genuine coup. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick78 Rnd3 Ja'Lynn Polk
Ja'Lynn Polk at the 78th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick100 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at pick No. 100 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick139 Rnd5 Dylan Laube
Dylan Laube at slot 139 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick152 Rnd5 Luke McCaffrey
Fair-plus on Luke McCaffrey, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick222 Rnd7 Jared Wiley
They let Jared Wiley come to them and pounced at the 222nd overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
