FutureB
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Bears a B+. The real work happened on the phones. The Bears fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
They will need Foster to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They will answer for taking defensive back early while interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots went begging.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. That Wilson pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In slot 1 they get a matchup problem out wide. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick13
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In No. 13 they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick69
Rnd3
Rod Moore
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Rod Moore at defensive back with interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots open.
Pick70
Rnd3
Rod Moore
A want over a need in the Round 3 slot: Rod Moore adds a defensive back while interior defensive lineman, running back and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick105
Rnd4
Christian Haynes
This one needs a full-page explanation: Christian Haynes in pick No. 105, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick132
Rnd4
Roman Wilson
They let Roman Wilson come to them and pounced at the 132nd pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick142
Rnd5
Bryce Foster
A real head-scratcher, Bryce Foster in pick 142 is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick183
Rnd6
Javon Foster
Javon Foster at the 183rd overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick226
Rnd7
Trey Knox
Trey Knox at Round 7, Pick 6 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
