FutureB-
The Dolphins lost the trade table, and the D- tells the story. The tape said wait; the Dolphins did not. Jackson Hawes went at pick 150, a good 106 picks before the board was ready.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. That Emmanwori pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Dolphins indulged a want in Burke while a need in wide receiver, edge rusher and other spots stayed open.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, wide receiver very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Mason Graham
In the 13th overall pick they get a disruptive interior force at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick48
Rnd2
Azareye'h Thomas
A reach for Azareye'h Thomas in the 48th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick72
Rnd3
Nick Emmanwori
Somehow Nick Emmanwori was still sitting there in slot 72, and they pounced on premier safety value. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick98
Rnd3
Emery Jones Jr.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Emery Jones Jr.. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick116
Rnd4
Denzel Burke
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 116 on Denzel Burke with wide receiver, edge rusher and other spots unsolved.
Pick135
Rnd4
Tyler Shough
Tyler Shough in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick150
Rnd5
Jackson Hawes
They talked themselves into Jackson Hawes at the 150th pick, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick155
Rnd5
Vernon Broughton
Vernon Broughton in pick No. 155 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick224
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan at the 224th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick231
Rnd7
John Williams
This one needs a full-page explanation: John Williams in slot 231, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
