Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB- TradesC+ FutureB
The Dolphins kept it disciplined and banked a B-.

You can usually follow a front office's logic. This one is harder. The Dolphins spent No. 111 on D'Angelo Ponds while edge rusher, tight end and other spots sat unaddressed. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Muhammad pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

Job largely done: quarterback settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Kadyn Proctor
A straight-up fair deal on Kadyn Proctor at the Round 1 slot, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick57 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
Fair-plus on Jake Slaughter, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick75 Rnd3 Zakee Wheatley
A clean, defensible pick in slot 75 with a little surplus value in Zakee Wheatley. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick87 Rnd3 Malik Muhammad
A tidy bit of business in the 87th pick, where Malik Muhammad graded well above the range. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick95 Rnd3 Harold Perkins Jr.
No edge and no loss on Harold Perkins Jr. in pick No. 95; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Pick111 Rnd4 D'Angelo Ponds
A curious use of No. 111. Edge rusher, tight end and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in D'Angelo Ponds did not.
Pick129 Rnd4 Drew Allar
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Drew Allar. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick131 Rnd4 Skyler Gill-Howard
By-the-book stuff, Skyler Gill-Howard at the Round 4 slot squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick149 Rnd5 Aaron Anderson
Aaron Anderson in pick 149 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick163 Rnd5 Xavier Nwankpa
No drama and no debate, Xavier Nwankpa went about where he belonged in slot 163. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick227 Rnd7 PJ Williams
PJ Williams at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
