Draft Grade — Dolphins

Larceny in the Round 2 slot lands the Dolphins a C, Emmanwori and all. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Dolphins watched Nick Emmanwori slide 29 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. With edge rusher, tight end and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Jahdae Barron
In the 20th overall pick they get an island corner. More want than need.
Pick48
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
They barely believed it either: Nick Emmanwori still on the board at Round 2, Pick 16. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick51
Rnd2
Wyatt Milum
Value with a capital V on Wyatt Milum in slot 51, a genuine coup. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick70
Rnd3
Elic Ayomanor
Elic Ayomanor at pick 70 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick98
Rnd3
Darius Alexander
A reasonable price with a little left over, Darius Alexander in No. 98. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick107
Rnd4
Kevin Winston Jr.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Kevin Winston Jr. at safety with edge rusher, tight end and other spots open.
Pick116
Rnd4
Smael Mondon Jr.
A clean, defensible pick in the 116th pick with a little surplus value in Smael Mondon Jr.. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick135
Rnd4
Jamaree Caldwell
Jamaree Caldwell at the Round 4 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick150
Rnd5
Tyler Shough
A tidy bit of business in pick 150, where Tyler Shough graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick155
Rnd5
Pat Bryant
A quiet steal in Round 5, Pick 17: Pat Bryant for less than the market said. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick224
Rnd7
Jordan Hancock
They read the board right and Jordan Hancock was the payoff at slot 224. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick231
Rnd7
Karene Reid
Circle this one: Karene Reid at No. 231 is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
Pick253
Rnd7
Zeek Biggers
Fair-plus on Zeek Biggers, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
