FutureF
The Steelers fleeced the room on the phones and earned a C. The Steelers torched the value chart for Patrick Payton, taking him 165 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. A weekend of give and take that grades a C.
The Haulcy steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. It is not that World is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first.
For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Hit on Sonny Styles and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In pick 21 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick53
Rnd2
Dontay Corleone
They paid a round early for Dontay Corleone in Round 2, Pick 21, more than the board wanted. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick54
Rnd2
Harold Perkins Jr.
Harold Perkins Jr. at the Round 2 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
Pick55
Rnd2
Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton at the 55th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick56
Rnd2
Drew Allar
This one needs a full-page explanation: Drew Allar in pick No. 56, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick85
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
You do not let a safety like A.J. Haulcy reach the 85th overall pick and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick86
Rnd3
Patrick Payton
Value said wait; Patrick Payton in the Round 3 slot says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick95
Rnd3
Zane Durant
Zane Durant in pick 95 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick99
Rnd3
Malik Muhammad
Malik Muhammad at No. 99 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick121
Rnd4
CJ Daniels
A premium they did not need to pay, CJ Daniels a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick122
Rnd4
Parker Brailsford
No drama and no debate, Parker Brailsford went about where he belonged in slot 122. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick123
Rnd4
Kevin Coleman Jr.
Kevin Coleman Jr. at the 123rd pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick125
Rnd4
Isaiah World
A surprising call. With tight end still to address, they spent the 125th overall pick on Isaiah World, an offensive lineman they were not short of.
Pick161
Rnd5
Aamil Wagner
Aamil Wagner in Round 5, Pick 21 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick204
Rnd6
Ted Hurst
Steal is underselling it; Ted Hurst at No. 204 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick214
Rnd6
Zxavian Harris
Zxavian Harris at pick No. 214 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick216
Rnd6
Thaddeus Dixon
Thaddeus Dixon in pick 216 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick224
Rnd7
TJ Hall
TJ Hall in the Round 7 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick228
Rnd7
Isaiah Nwokobia
Value with a capital V on Isaiah Nwokobia in slot 228, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick237
Rnd7
J. Michael Sturdivant
A wild overpay on J. Michael Sturdivant in the 237th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
