Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesB+ FutureB-
Jacobs should have been long gone. The Browns pounced, and earned a B.

The Browns did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Curtis Jacobs fell into the Round 6 slot.

Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.

Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick56 Rnd2 Chop Robinson
Nice patience on Chop Robinson, who had no business lasting to No. 56. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick86 Rnd3 Junior Colson
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Junior Colson at the 86th pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick138 Rnd5 Malik Washington
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 138 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick164 Rnd5 Justin Rogers
Justin Rogers in Round 5, Pick 28 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick174 Rnd5 Chau Smith-Wade
A slide stopped in the Round 5 slot, with Chau Smith-Wade worth more than the price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick210 Rnd6 Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs in slot 210 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick231 Rnd7 Miyan Williams
Miyan Williams in pick 231 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
