FutureB
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Texans. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Texans did exactly that with Zion Logue in the 236th overall pick. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
The Texans clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Troy Franklin
In the Round 1 slot they get a No. 1 receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick59
Rnd2
Patrick Paul
Patrick Paul in slot 59 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick100
Rnd3
Cedric Gray
Value said wait; Cedric Gray in the 100th overall pick says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick128
Rnd4
Marist Liufau
Marist Liufau in Round 4, Pick 28 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick154
Rnd5
Xavier Thomas
No edge and no loss on Xavier Thomas in pick 154; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick173
Rnd5
Jordan Jefferson
Jordan Jefferson at No. 173 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick213
Rnd6
Nathan Thomas
A clean, defensible pick in Round 6, Pick 38 with a little surplus value in Nathan Thomas. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick236
Rnd7
Zion Logue
This one needs a full-page explanation: Zion Logue in pick No. 236, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick245
Rnd7
Dylan McMahon
Dylan McMahon at slot 245 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick250
Rnd7
Tylan Grable
Tylan Grable in the 250th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
